Hello everyone! Are you familiar with Na Young-seok PD's variety show 'Earth Arcade'? It's a variety show that started in 2022 with season 1, gained popularity, and continued to season 2. Earth Arcade broke away from the traditional variety show format and showcased a fresh approach, earning a lot of love. For me, it was a program that provided healing and laughter every week. So today, I'm going to introduce Earth Arcade and share some news about the upcoming season 3!

What is Earth Arcade?

It's a variety program that aired on tvN in June 2022 as the follow-up to 'Sixth Sense' 3, and it's a new real-life travel variety show by Na Young-seok PD. The concept is a bit unique. In a hot spot on the back of the moon, a Ttorongi working at a space rice cake shop goes missing. Okhwangseongje, the owner of the rice cake shop, offers a reward for Ttorongi. Four Earth warriors, Yeongji, Mimi, Eunji, and Yujin, team up to catch Ttorongi who is on vacation in Thailand. Doesn't it sound novel and quirky?

Season 1

“Four warriors who team up to catch a moon rabbit that escaped to Earth, unfolding a new hybrid multiverse action adventure variety show across time and space.”

In season 1, the four Earth warriors travel to Thailand to catch Ttorongi who escaped there. If they catch Ttorongi, they can make a wish worth 2 million won. The four warriors, who were noisy from the start, tackle various games in Thailand. Random play dance, retro music games, green frog rock-paper-scissors, character quizzes, morning missions, etc. Although the format is clearly familiar, they unfold the show in a way that isn't predictable. And the four warriors who caught Ttorongi go on a package tour as a reward from Okhwangseongje. They enjoy a food tour, shopping, and games in Goseong, Gangwon-do. And they return to Korea and receive a prize worth 2 million won, ending season 1 on a heartwarming note.

Season 2 aired on tvN in May 2023 following 'Seo Jin's' and garnered much anticipation due to the success of the first season. The mission to catch Ttorongi, who has escaped to Earth once again, was upgraded from the previous season, proving to be quite challenging. This time, they travel to Finland, a cold country, offering a stark contrast to the warm climate of the previous season. Personally, I believe the second season was even more successful. Mimi's wrong answer combos and her performance were particularly outstanding. In season 2, they played random play dance, Hunminjeongeum Yut Nori, zombie games, and character quizzes, and they successfully captured Ttorongi. The four Earth warriors receive Bali as a reward from Okhwangseongje. Even though it's a reward vacation, it's full of commotion and chaos.

Highlights

Chemistry among the Members:One of the highlights of Earth Arcade is the chemistry between the cast members. All four members displayed overwhelming energy and stamina that surprised the production team. Lee Eun-ji, as a comedian, smoothly handled the flow and reactions due to her experience in broadcasting. Lee Young-ji, true to her nickname 'MZ President,' showed youthful and bold energy. The members that surprised me were Mimi and Ahn Yu-jin. First, Mimi is an idol, and I wasn't sure what kind of image she would show in a variety show. But she was the quietest, yet also the most charming one who would occasionally burst with humor, especially in season 2. And Ahn Yu-jin, the youngest member who had just turned 20, displayed amazing variety show skills and intelligence throughout the game. The combination of these four members was perfect and harmonious, which is why they gained so much love from the audience.

Na Young-seok PD: In previous variety shows by Na Young-seok PD, we often saw the members struggling and suffering due to difficult game levels, but in Earth Arcade, the members were so good at the games that the production team was often surprised. Typically in variety shows, the PD needs to put in effort to get footage, but the members of Earth Arcade continuously requested games without getting tired, so much so that the production crew pleaded with them to take a break. This level of talent and stamina from the four members brought a boisterous and novel sense of fun to the show, earning it praise for being unlike any other show before.

Next Season News

After successfully wrapping up two seasons, many people have been curious about season 3. Currently, Na Young-seok PD is very busy, making it difficult to produce Earth Arcade immediately. However, to keep fans engaged, they plan to create some content to warm things up. The filming will be a travel concept, spanning 3 nights and 4 days in April. It looks like the travel destination will be decided through discussion among the members. The members are even getting their driver's licenses for this trip.
